Lionel Messi insists there is no need for Barcelona to change their style of play, despite the Catalan giants failing to reach the Champions League final for the second successive season.

But the club have crashed out of Europe's top club competition at the semi-final stage in each of the last two attempts, including an aggregate 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich this season.

However, despite their failure on the European front, Barca romped home to reclaim the Spanish league title from rivals Real Madrid this year and Messi insists there is no reason for the club to change their style of play.

'We can't lose our heads. We can't change our style of play,' said the 25-year-old
'You can't always win. We've been playing our brand of football for years and managers and teams have studied it.

'We have to stay calm and focus on next year.'
However, following his side's Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, defender Gerard Pique said things must change to enable Barcelona to become more competitive again.
'We are not the best any more, other teams are,' said the former Manchester United man.
'We have to make some decisions in the summer. Perhaps we need to work harder.'
